Brief description of the technology:
The Szakmár Agricultural Services Ltd. which deals with the processing of cereals uses pellet firing devices for supplying its own heating demands. Their aim was to be as independent from the natural gas supply as possible. Currently the company heats 350 m² of office buildings and industrial objects with this heating system.

In order to reach total energy independence the company produces pellets from the spelt chaff which is the by-product of their cereal processing activity with a pelleting machine operated by the company. This pelleting machine has a capacity of about 600 kg/h. The produced pellets are used in two CARBOROBOT boilers with a capacity of 30 kW per boiler. Some part of the pellets is sold for energy production and fodder production purposes.

Why is it a „Best practice”?
The company’s aim is to be independent from the natural gas supply. They realized that the by-products of their activities can be used for supplying their own heat (and domestic hot water) demand. This way they can be 100% independent. In addition, the raw material that is needed for this is produced on their own fields situated within 10 km, therefore the transportation distance is optimal, and they can be independent from the point of feedstock production as well. Moreover, the company does not only produce pellets for itself and for heating purposes. Several local municipalities use them for the heating of their own institutions, and due to its high nutritional value the pellet is also sold as fodder.
