Chipping
Summary
The crucial question for the economical processing of wood chips for industrial use is processing of large volumes, which cannot be carried out without suitable mechanical equipment. We meet this issue both in connection with crushing wood waste, mining waste and other biomass, as well as during their subsequent sorting. Large volumes of row materials for energy production purposes must be efficiently produced. One of the possibilities how to reduce of large volumes of raw biomass is chipping. Chipping is included in the disintegration processes. Chippers are used solely for the disintegration of wood-based biomass. Disintegration is a necessary part of most of the technologies in processing woody biomass.
A typical example is the production of wood chips as fuel, as part of a compost pile, or during the manufacture of building boards, etc. The dry matter content in the woody biomass during harvesting is low (approximately 50%), therefore including crop disintegration is useful in terms of energy, logistics and technology. The quality of wood chips largely depends on the actual whether during harvest and on the weather conditions of processing and even storing raw biomass before processing. Choosing the appropriate kind of wood chippers depends on several requirements that each user must be aware of. It is important to know if the chipper will be used only occasionally, or it will be needed for a long-term use. This factor affects the selection of the power of the equipment and, of course, the price of the chipper. It is necessary to determine if the chipper will be used with self-propelled drive, or if it will be connected to a driving device (e.g. to the electric driving device of a tractor). It is also necessary to determine if the chipper will be stationary or mobile. In some cases it could be more useful to have more powerful stationary chippers, while in others mobile chippers can be more economical (e.g. when moving to another place is needed during a short period). All these factors affect the price of wood chippers and the staff costs as well.
