Technologies to be assessed and evaluated in COACH BioEnergy
The list of technologies lays down the basis of the COACH BioEnergy project. The chosen technologies are mature biomass technologies available on the market of Central Europe, and suitable for beeing assessed and evaluated in terms of environmentals, economic and social sustainability.
The defined list of technologies contains the following:
- biomass production: forestry and agriculture
- biomass provision: pre-treatment, transport and processing
- biomass conversion: firing, biofuels and biogas
These categories have been broken down to more certain levels and contain for example in case of ’transport’ the activities loading, unloading, transport and stocking, while the concrete activities to be assessed in case of biomass firing range from domestic biomass combustion fuelled with firewood and briquettes over biomass combustion for commercial and district heating to CHP and power genaration with gasification.
In the following work steps technology descriptions will be delivered for the defined technologies which will deal with in the case of production for example with data and information on yield and procuction data or the protection of biomass crops. Technology descriptions will have a common srtucture according to a template prepared by the WP lead and serve with bibliographical references, glossaries and practical advice for the realization (Do’s and Don’ts).
First drafts of technology descriptions are already developped. These are:
- Rapeseed production (responsible project partner: Institute for Fuels and Renewable Energy (EC Brec), Poland)
- Willow short rotaion crop production (responsible partner: University of Warmia and Mazury Olsztyn (UWM), Poland)
- Storage (responsible partner: Technical University of Ostrava, Energy Research Center (VSB), Czech Republic)
- Biogas anaerobic digestion (responsible partner: German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ), Germany)
Alltotegher 44 technology descriptions are planned until the end of the project (15 for production; 13 for provision; 16 for conversion). These technology descriptions will build one of the main contents of the virtual net of Coach BioEnergy and be available to everybody.
